Doors. Decisions. Life. Future. Dreams.

"Too much consistency is as bad for the mind as it is for the body. Consistency is contrary to nature, contrary to life."
-Aldus Huxley

Destiny is not the path given us, but the path we choose for ourselves.” - Megamind

The future is full of uncertainty, unknown variables, and risks. Life is full of dreams despite living in reality. The problem is that the doors into the future are all different. Each decision that we make certainly affects the outcome of what lies ahead on the road to our destiny. However destiny implies that the future is predetermined and that our lives are on a road that no matter what choices we think we make, fate has already decided those choices for us. I am one of those people who believe in predestination, but many more people believe that we actually control the decisions we make despite the outcomes of those decisions being unknown even if we have a general idea of what they may be.

Life is extremely cloudy. Let's take a step back for a second and look at it from an analogical standpoint. You come to three doors. Each door is a different color representing something that is on the other side. The first door is black representing complete darkness, uncharted territory, unknownness, mystique and mystery. This door has never been opened by anyone before. The second door is blue, representing the calm, careful, reserved safe-bet. The last door is red. This one represents high risk, high reward, excitement, but the potential for disaster. This door represents 50 cent's saying, “Get rich or go broke trying.”

So now you are standing before these three doors pondering which one to open. You are still unsure if you open one, if the others will disappear or lock. Predestination is the belief that says no matter how much you contemplate which one to open, destiny and fate has already made that decision for you, despite you believing that you are in control. So which will it be? Black, Blue, or Red?

You are standing there and now all of a sudden there is a time limit. You only have five minutes to figure out which door you plan to open, feeling rushed? While the clock is counting down, all of these questions are running through your head: Do I want to take the safe bet? Do I want to go for it all and 'Let It Ride'? Or do I want to pick the one that is uncharted? You only have 2 minutes left to decide. Isn't being rushed an uneasy feeling? It's just a door. PICK ONE ALREADY.

With one minute to spare, you finally decide on opening the black door. You open it and walk through into the darkness, where you see three more doors glowing in the dark. Now the doors are Red, Black, and White. Is the white door just deceptive? White is an absence of color, does this door represent an absence of something inside? A void? Does it represent something else, like heaven, or is the door a wolf in sheep's clothing? Tick tock. You've got plenty of time to spare, this time there is no time limit. There is no rush to make a decision, but you decide, life is too short, and you have been in a rut too long, and it's time to be adventurous this time and open the red door. You are so subconsciously confident in your decision this time you fling the door open ready for what's behind it... the future is ahead.
